Abstract: Web-based self-learning has received a lot of attention in recent years due to the development of Web 2.0 technologies. Such learning can be viewed as individuals learning online, without any person or device acting as teachers to guide learners. Accordingly, learners may become disoriented in this on-line environment due to the lack of guidance especially in Web 2.0 contexts. In this paper, we propose a self-regulated learning system in light of the theory of self-regulated learning. The proposed system will assist students' pursuit of self-learning in Web 2.0 contexts. To explore the influence of the proposed system on students, adaptive structuration theory has been employed. The results indicate that the features of the proposed method can provide real assistance for students using this approach, particularly low-achieving students; moreover, the using the system has a positive influence on all students' perceptions of learning effectiveness and learning satisfaction. We thus conclude by recommending the application of the proposed system in assisting learners' self-learning through the use of Web 2.0.
