Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded latent membrane 1(LMP1) have oncogenic properties. This study is to investigate that effect of ethanolic extract from Polygonum cuspidatum (PcE) on EBV-positive tumor cells. Immunoblot was performed for the expression of LMP1. The unclear chromatin morphology and percentage of apoptotic cells was mwasured by fluorescence DNA-binding dye and flow cytometry, respectively. The viability of B95-8 cells decreased when they treated with PcE in time and dose dependent manner. The PcE effectively inhibit the expression of EBV LMP1 at 50 ug/ml and cells display typical features of apoptosis. This study finds that PcE inhibit the expression of LMP1 and improve the apoptosis, and that may be a useful therapeutic drug to EBV-positive tumor cell.
