Machining noise is a major safety and health concern for the Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) industry. The existing optimization researches are basically focused on the projects under specific statuses, and achieved through massive operations of process equipments. Thus, the development of general innovation optimization technique is absolutely necessary.
In this study, machining speed, feed rate, cutting depth and tool nose runoff are selected as control factors for machining noise in CNC turning. Based on the literature review, the TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) is additionally utilized to analyze 39 engineering parameters and to define the improvement as well as worsening factor of machining noise. Moreover, the noise optimization strategy received from TRIZ is then experimentally applied to confirm the effectiveness of this study. It is shown that the cutting noise can be properly enhanced by using our proposed innovation technique. This study not only contributes a general innovation noise optimization scheme for the CNC machining industry without repeated equipment operations, but also provides the reference basis for the field.
