    Abstract: 在唐初一陣反佛聲浪中,《內德論》負起了護佛的功用,對於重視三綱五常,忠孝倫理的儒家,是否造成衝擊?而其中面臨的困境是什麼?要如何處理及解決呢?這些都是本文所要探討的。首先《內德論》是以宗教社會學的觀點來顯示佛教有裨益社會的功能,同時說明佛教的宗教道德和儒家的處世哲學有著相輔相成的關係,從倫理的意義而言,佛教和儒家在現實作用上,可說是目標一致,沒有分別的。其次提出因果報應的思想,質疑儒家不合理的果報觀,並以三世輪迴及業力源起來作為儒家果報觀的補充及調整,而這種因果報應說也正是宗教倫理道德的原動力。最後提出空有論,就是用〝空〞來破除世俗所執的常有,又用〝有〞來掃蕩人們所執的空無,所以不落入有,也不落入無,但其實《內德論》所主張的〝既有既無,不有不無〞,這當中的〝有〞和〝空〞在現實的意義上是相同的,因為它最終的目的不是在探討佛教哲理的問題,而是將之視為實踐道德時的方便法。
