This research aims to discuss the situations of the spatial cognition of junior high school students on the choices of outdoor leisure space. Meanwhile, the study analyzes not only the variations caused by the background, but also the correlations among the spatial cognition and the spatial choices. This research collects data through questionnaire survey as the research tool, “ The Questionnaire of the Spatial Cognition of Junior High School Students on the Choices of Outdoor Leisure Space. ” The research participants are 500 students of Fusing Junior High School in East District of Tainan City, selected by quota sampling, and a total of 433 valid responses is collected. The data are analyzed by the statistical methods of descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and chi-square test.Due to the findings of this study, conclusions are made as the following:1. Participants have significantly low spatial cognition, and their level of correct spatial recognition on the map is at an average of 3.42. Among the recognition spaces, Fusing Junior High School is identified the most, and Fuqiang Park is identified the least.2. Fusing Junior High School is selected the most by participants as the outdoor leisure space in Hu Wei Liao. The top five reasons of choices are close proximity, abundance of exercise facilities, wide utilization area, abundance of rest facilities, and properly maintained facilities.3. There are significant differences in spatial cognition among junior high school students of different gender, grades, residential region, residential duration, frequency of leisure activities, and transportation.4. There are significant differences in spatial choices among participants of different gender, grades, residential region, residential duration, and transportation.5. There are significant differences in spatial choices among junior high school students due to different exercise types, retention duration, and peer types. No significant differences are observed in the utilization duration, utilization period and utilization frequency. 6. There is a significant correlation between the participants’ degree of spatial cognition and their choices of leisure space. At last, in accordance with the research findings, conclusions and suggestions are provided as references for schools, related government departments, and future researchers’ references.
