Because the concept of environmental restoration is getting popular in Taiwan, the request from general public for keeping balance of river ecology while performing river management and water resource utilization simultaneously is increasing. Among the feasible ecological technologies, natural treatment system is able to use high land with the river providing low permeable liner forming wetland habitats for animals and plants, and also can be treated as a sustainable ecological technology for wastewater treatment and water resource management.
This thesis is using geographic information system (GIS) to build up information about high land area, distribution of pollution sources, pollutant loading areas, environmental sensitive areas, etc. on the target river. In this thesis, the functional estimation and operation procedures of river natural treatment system (NTS) can be established. And this research can also help the policy-maker select the site of the ecological treatment system. Based on the estimation of strategy function, the optimized treatment efficiencies then can be predict for the decision maker as reference for evaluation of the sites used for river self-purification.
