Surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and co-therapy after surgery are commonly used for treatment in patients with head and neck cancers, but the skin is sensitive after exposure to radiation. Radiation therapy causes tissue damage and inflammatory reactions, and the complication has obvious implications for patients with head and neck cancer. The appropriate treatment of radiotherapy dermatitis is an important element of current multi-disciplinary treatment. The current preparations for radiation dermatitis are limited, and most of them are steroid-based, antibacterial, moisturizing, and silver ion-based dressings. Patients still suffer from pain, skin ulcers and scarring after use, and the therapeutic effects are limited. Moreover, many ointment prices are expensive, and patients often can't afford it. The laboratory develops products that can be used comprehensively during the preventive phase and during radiation therapy. We screen for a plant extract to reduce inflammation and enhance skin protection, further study to reduce sensitivity and pain, improve cell repair and wound healing on the skin. We are also developing a nanoemulsion-hydrogel containing functional plant extracts that are easy to dry and film and recruiting patients with radiotherapy dermatitis to test the efficacy of the product. We hope that microemulsion gel can be more widely used in skin repair and prevention of radiation dermatitis, helping patients to resist the concomitant reactions of dermatitis caused by radiotherapy treatment.
