Occupational Noise Exposure for Workers - A Case Study of A Screw/nut Processing Plant
The screw / nut industry is the fundamental industry in Taiwan. It has the reputation of the screw Kingdom and is one of the important export industries. This study is to study the impact of noise on the physical and mental health of workers in screw / nut related industries who have been working in the environment with noise over 85 dBA for a long time, and to conduct a questionnaire survey to understand the workers' perception of noise protection, so as to strengthen the awareness of noise protection. The study has three parts: First, the sound level measurement of the working environment to understand the main sources of noise and the impact of noise volume;Second, the comparative analysis of the employee special health examination data to understand the influences of hearing and blood pressure related to the noise environment on the same employee for the working period of two years. Thirdly, a questionnaire survey to understand the employees' cognition of various aspects of noise, such as: the impact on physical and mental health, the main source of noise in the working environment, the company's relevant noise control regulations, the awareness of noise protection, etc. By comparing and analyzing the above three parts, it is found that the longer the working years, the more influences on the diseases of hearing and cardiovascular, which is consistent with the research of related literatures. For working areas with high noise level, the implementation of improvement project has achieved good results. This research suggests that in addition to continuous control of noise engineering, it is necessary to strengthen the employee education and training and the consultation of medical treatment, so that the workers can better understand the hazards caused by noise and how to strengthen their own protection.
