Since 1896, Japanese people have begun planning and setting up a weather station in Taiwan to start observation operations. From the perspective of meteorological science, the meteorological observations of more than 120 years have witnessed climate changes in Taiwan. However, in terms of history, humanities, society and people's livelihood, the 120-year weather changes affect all those who live here. Each weather station has an extreme observation record in its observation history, often accompanied by a major weather disaster causing loss of life and property and damaging the original living environment. After a large number of public facilities and houses have been destroyed, the post-disaster reconstruction carried out by the public sector will also change the local follow-up development. It is known that the impacts of major weather events are far-reaching.
In the project of the first year, we finished the cross-domain studies of 10 historical extreme weather events including tornado, typhoon, cold damage, high temperature and drought. And in the project of this year, we will still base on the extreme observation records of the southern weather stations, collect relevant meteorological historical materials, establish the outline of weather events, and collect relevant cultural and historical data at that time. Through the interdisciplinary data interpretation, the impacts of the weather event on the people's livelihood at that time are restored. In addition, the project of this year will edit the results of the case studies to be the materials of web communities. And these website materials will be able to provide the Southern Region Weather Center to post on Facebook at any appropriate time in the future for more widely communicating.
