Hot springs in Taiwan mostly locate in aboriginal areas, where contain fine natural environment and biological resources, as well as abundant human resources. However, limited by restrictions on the development of aboriginal reserves, hot spring industries develop respectively. There is no systematic overall planning for hot spring area, such as fully application hot spring resources and tribal culture, which can promote the transition of aboriginal tribes into hot spring health villages.
This study first collected data by using literature analysis methods and summarized conditions with three directions including environment, medical care, and management. The collected data were updated by field surveys. Then, in-depth interviews were conducted with experts, scholars, and local hot spring companies. After collecting and organizing the data, SWOT analysis assessed the advantages, disadvantages and development conditions of transitioning into hot spring health village.
This results show that people’s related information of hot spring health and health care has gradually matured. There is no standard in the field of medical treatment for hot spring. Jinlun hot spring area is blessed with unique environment, but medical resources are scarce, which could be made up by telemedicine system.
In terms of the environment, due to the gradual construction and planning, if the concept of health village planning and construction were introduced, it should be feasible to transit Jinlun Hot Spring area into health village. While developing hot spring health villages, it is necessary integrate different cultural heritages to increase the integration of tourists into the local life.
