The main purpose of this study was to explore the status of and relationship between workplace fatigue and the job characteristics of traditional manufacturing workers in Taiwan.
In this analysis, we used a cross-sectional study to collect the relevant research data. The data covers traditional manufacturing industries of Tainan such as the people's livelihood industry, metal machinery industry and chemical industry company’s internal workers for the parent group, respectively. The test was carried out by "executive department", "production department" and "maintenance department" workers. 350 questionnaires were issued, 328 questionnaires were completed , 7 valid questionnaires were eliminated and 321 questionnaires were available. The effective questionnaire rate amounted to 91.7%.
This research questionnaire includes basic data, as well as a special work quality table and workplace fatigue scale (WFS). The WFS is followed by statistical analysis using SPSS 22.0 package tools. The results of this study are as follows:
The workload of male workers in traditional manufacturing industry in Taiwan is significantly higher than that of female workers.
There are significant differences in personal fatigue, job fatigue, work overload, work control and workload among workers of different ages in Taiwan's traditional manufacturing industry.
There are significant differences in work fatigue, fatigue of service objects, work overload, work control and workload among different traditional manufacturing workers in Taiwan.
Although the working characteristics and fatigue load of the workers in traditional manufacturing industry in Taiwan are not significant, there are differences between those doing shift work compared to the regular day to day workers.
On average, the traditional manufacturing workers in Taiwan are married and have more than 2 children which is a significantly higher number of offspring than for workers in other sectors. At present, the occupational fatigue and job characteristics of traditional manufacturing workers in Taiwan are closely interrelated.
This study, based on the results of the analysis above, gives recommendations so that traditional manufacturing companies in the process of transformation to different job types can improve the situation of workers based on workplace fatigue and the job characteristics indicated.
