Physical inactivity has become an important health issue in recent years, it has been shown that physical activity was related to lower risks of cardiovascular, diabetes and other diseases. The purpose of this study is to examine associations between timing of physical activity, sleep time, and biomarkers. Our measurements included questionnaires, urine and blood samples and pedometer, the study sample included adult aged 18 years or above from a hospital in Yunlin.
We found significant gender differences in the distribution of timing of physical activity. In addition, there was a significant relationship between timing of physical activity and sleep time. Our findings indicated that timing of physical activity were significantly associated with triglyceride (p<0.05), renal filtration rate (p<0.01). We also found that those who tend to exercise more in the afternoon had a lower level of physical activity. Those who tend to exercise in the moning, had shorter nocturnal sleep, duration and relatively long nap duration. On the other hand, those who tend to exercise in the afternoon had longer nocturnal sleep duration, and a relatively shorter nap duration. In summary, timing of physical activity impact biomarkers differently, future research is needed with larger sample sizes and longitudinal design to further clarify associations between exercise time and biomarkers.
