Abstract: Consuming of copper nowadays is increasing in many industrial areas. Copper has been concerned because its toxicity in both environment and human health. Adsorption is a popular technology to remove Copper ions (Cu2+). Biopolymer, modified chitosan immobilized clay, was synthesized as the adsorbent to remove Cu2+ from aqueous solution in this study. Clay (bentonite) was used as supporting material for chitosan and crosslinking agent, epichlorohydrin (ECH), ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE), and glutaraldehyde (GLA) were introduced to improve the strength of adsorbent in the acidic condition. The adsorption efficiency of these crosslinked chitosan immobilized on bentonite were investigated in terms of adsorption capacity in term of time and initial concentration of Cu2+. To understand the adsorption behaviors of these adsorbents, the adsorption isotherms, Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm, were
investigated. Moreover, the adsorption mechanism of adsorption was described by pseudo-first- and pseudo-secondorder kinetic model. was fitted very well with pseudo-second-order kinetic model confirmed by R2 > 0.99.
