Five senses means sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. One can communicate with and understand the world by those five senses. At present, among five senses, there is only visual sense is more often to be used to represent the interaction between visual and view in landscape. Other four senses except for visual sense are seldom to be mentioned and researched. The purpose of the study is to apply five senses on landscape planting design to bring more interactions between viewer and landscape.
This study is to apply five senses theory in the planting design of Majia village and using the local plants to form the local landscape. The methodology is such as literature reviews, case studies, five senses, planting design. Firstly, it is to understand the principles of landscape planting design, and secondly, to understand the relationship between plants and residents through interviews and observations. The purpose of the study is to understand and experience aboriginal landscape through landscape planting design constituted by five senses.
This study finds out that landscape planting design of five senses experience needs plural plantation to be composed. The single planting design is hard to include the whole five senses. Therefore, planting design should use thematic way to emphasize each sense experience. Aboriginal crops and folklore plants can most express the aboriginal landscape and living style so that one can apply them to landscape design.
