The peripheral circulatory and sensory functions were measured on 10 testers to evaluate the disturbances of these functions induced by hand-ram vibration of motorcycles. The average age and year of riding motorcycles of the testers who had never exposed to occupational vibration were 20.5 ± 1.5 and 2.5 ± 0.9 respectively. The measured items included the skin temperature of the index finger, vibratory sense threshold of the middle finger, two-point discriminat. nd nail press test of the ring finger of the right hand. After continously exposing to hand-arm vibration of motorcycle for 1, 2, and 4 hours, each measurement was undertaken before and after 10 minutes local cooling of the right hand in summer (31.5 ± 0.6℃) and winter (19.6 ± 0.6℃). The results showed that the skin temperature slightly reduced and vibratory sense threshold remarkably increased in summer. The peripheral circulatory and sensory functions were significantly changed in winter--the skin tempertaure decreased ; while vibratory sense threshold, two-point discrimination, and the time of recovery of nad press test remarkably increased. It was found that the disturbances of the peripheral circulatory and sensory functions were caused by continously exposing to hand-arm vibration of motorcycle handle-bars.
