Abstract: In recent years, biopolymers have been recognized as an effective adsorbent for removal of metal ions in water, especially the Chitosan which is derived from deacetylation of chitin. In this study, adsorption of Cu2+ and Pb2+ ions onto chiyosan-coated sand were investigated. The experiments were carried out through batch adsorption studied. Several parameters were evaluated such as the effect of initial metal ions concentration range 100-2000 mg/L, pH of the solution and contact time. The equilibrium adsorption datd were analyzed using Langmuir and Freundich isotherm models. The model that fitted the result best was the Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capcities calculated from Langmuir adsorption isotherm were 8.50 and 11.91 mg/g chitosan-coated sand for Cu2+ and Pb2+, respectively. The kinetic data were tested and followed pseudo-second order reaction which indicated that the chemical sorption was the rate-limiting step.
