Objectives: This study is aimed to find the relationships of demographic characteristics, health status, and health behaviors of people aged 12 and above in Taiwan. Methods: The data from “aged 12 and above personal questionnaires” which was collected by face-to-face questionnaires in the 2001 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) in Taiwan was used in this study. A total of 18131 subjects were recruited to analyze the prevalence of chronic diseases, body pains, self-perceived health status, exercise and body weight control. The relationships of demographic characteristics, health status, and health behaviors were examined by frequency and X2 test using SAS 8.2 statistical software. Results: Age, gender, education, marital status and occupations were relative to chronic diseases and body pains and self-perceived health status. All demographic characteristics were correlated with exercise, except gender. The rate of no exercise of male and female was about 46%. Above 60% people didn’t control their weights. People who are female, graduated from college and have BMI more than 24.0 would pay attention to control their weights.
