    Abstract: 游離自由基( free radicals)的產生是因為氧分子或氫氧化合物上有一些不成對的電子,例如 O2- (superoxide anion radical) 和 OH (hydroxyl radical) 等,皆會對細胞產生毒害; 另尚有一些活化態氧化物 (ROS, reactive oxygen species) 也會影響細胞的代謝而造成其加速老化,如 H2O2。若能將一些抗氧化酶加入化粧品之產品中,如超氧歧化酶(SOD, superoxide dismutase)、過氧化氫酶(Catalase)、抗壞血酸過氧化酶(APX, Ascorbate peroxidase) 等,將可有效防止自由基及過氧化物對細胞產生嚴重的傷害而導致其老化或死亡,目前已選殖出一段1063 bps長度之小球藻SOD基因,可轉譯出203個胺基酸的蛋白質,此SOD酵素的分子量約為22.3 kDa,其DNA和胺基酸序列都與單胞藻有最高之相似度,分別有73.5% 及70.5% 之相似度。
