Title: High performance Liquid Chromatography of Alkaline-Soluble Food Additives
    Authors: Dong-Bor Yeh

    Date: 1983
    Issue Date: 2012-11-16 09:01:25 (UTC+8)
Abstract: A suitable procedure for the separation of several alkaline-soluble food additives, including saccharin, caffeine, sorbic acid, benzoic acid, para-hydroxy benzoic acid and salicylic acid is worked out. In this study, the food additives tested were completely separated and distinguished from Vit C within 20 minutes by high pressure liquid chromatography (Hitachi 638-.50) on a small reverse-phase column (LiChrosorb RP-18; 15x0.4 cm).An isocratic Na-acetate buffer containg 2-4 % 2-propanol was used as eluent, and the min. amount detectable was in the nanogram range. Furthermore, by referring the elution profiles obtained from a dual-wavelength UV monitor (Hitachi 635M) and connected daual-pen recorder (Hitachi 056), the identification of additive(s) in food is more reliable than that judged only by the retention time.
