The Argentinean composer, Ginastera, embarked on his musical composition path by employing a nationalistic style, despite the fact that nationalism had been prevailing in classical music for some time but not in Argentina. Many of his compositions are ingeniously integrated with national cultural elements along with an innovative approach which successfully launched his music into international status while promoting his country. Among his compositions, Pampeana No. 2 was composed in his "subjective nationalism period," in which he deliberately and eloquently blended Argentina's nationalistic elements with his individual compositional characteristics and avant-garde techniques. This paper investigates and analyzes the composer’s compositional techniques by focusing on Pampeana No. 2. It attempts to uncover his unique compositional approach while unveiling the blending of the Argentinean national musical elements.
